Vacant Property Management

The Rating (Empty Properties) Act 2007 took effect from 1st April 2008 and overnight empty properties became a significantly greater financial burden to the rate payer. Properties are often vacated prior to the end of the lease as clients move to new premises and other clients are caught out when they are downsizing or changing direction in their business.

We believe that through agreed procedures and working within the legal framework, we can help to minimise the costs. As with many aspects of the rating work this requires a solid working relationship not only with the client but also the local authority (and in some circumstances it can also be advantageous to work in cooperation with nearby occupiers).

The individual circumstances will dictate the most practical way forward and every situation is different but will normally require a site meeting. In every case the earlier we are involved the greater are the options available and the more that can be done to minimise any empty rates liability.
