John founded the firm in 1991 after 10 years with DTZ (formerly Debenham Tewson & Chinnocks) where he specialised in development consultancy. He has continued to work for both private and public sector clients on major schemes throughout the country.
Ian joined Turner Morum in 1992 as the Business Rates and Statutory Valuations Partner. The bulk of his time is spent on business rate appeals and advice and also managing a growing team of rating specialists. Other areas of expertise include property taxation, consultancy advice and compulsory purchase.
Ian was on the Committee of the Rating Surveyors’ Association from 1998 to 2002 and is a past Director and Council Member of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation.
In addition to dealing with bulk classes of property such as offices, warehouses and factories, Ian specialises in heavy industrial properties, mines, telecommunications, cinemas and leisure properties, serviced apartments and corporate housing, hotels, petrol filling stations, sewage works, pipelines, garden centres, retail nurseries and other specialist horticultural properties, electricity generation hereditaments, pharmaceutical and radiological manufacturing plants, large petrochemical properties and research establishments.
Andrew joined the partnership in 1992. He was previously with DTZ (formerly Debenham Tewson & Chinnocks) for 17 years, where he was an associate Director in the office and industrial agency team. He specialises in advising a wide variety of clients in the office, technology, media, educational, industrial and distribution sectors on professional and agency matters. In particular he advises on relocation, acquisitions, disposals, rent reviews, lease renewals and restructuring and dilapidation issues.
Associates
Charles has spent most of his professional life with Turner Morum, having joined the Firm in November 1994. In charge of IT strategy and implementation within the practice, Charles also applies his extensive IT skills to the design and management of bespoke valuation tools and databases for our larger corporate clients. He mainly deals with business rates and is a specialist in roadside and educational properties.
Tony Lockwood BSc (Hons) MRICS
Tony joined Turner Morum in August 2006 at Associate level, working within the professional agency and development teams. Tony deals primarily with acquisition/disposal of commercial property for occupation, investment and development and also works on rent review and lease renewal transactions. Tony started his career in 1989 with the Asset Management team for British Coal Pension Fund (CIN Properties Limited) and has a strong grounding in property management which is applied in his recent work with occupier clients on service charge consultancy.
Thomas joined Turner Morum in 2007 to work alongside John Turner in the Development Consultancy team. Responsibilities in this role include producing development appraisals, built to incorporate large amounts of variable information with regard to site development capacity and value. In addition Thomas supports John Turner in providing expert reports and witness evidence at public inquiries, arbitrations and court cases, and all other development consultancy matters. Thomas has previously worked with Medicx Group as a development surveyor specialising in the medical sector
Surveyor
Catherine McGlinchy BSc (Hons)
Catherine joined Turner Morum in October 2007 where her primary role is to assist the partner responsible for development consultancy, John Turner.Her knowledge of planning and development strategy, and transaction evidence technique of accumulation and analysis facilitates the preparation of computer modelling enabling viability/profitability testing.
Rating Adminstration
Hannah joined Turner Morum in September 2006 taking on the role of Rates and Accounts Manager. She has worked previously with Capita Group, where she was involved with the Westminster, Brent and Lambeth business rates teams as a Revenues Officer.
Her primary role is to audit clients’ business rate demands and process refunds. Hannah is also responsible for inspection of properties, S44a applications and the management of rates accounts for large portfolios. Hannah also takes an active role in site inspections, appeal applications and settlements.
Hannah is also an Assistant to the company accountant and is responsible for billing and credit control duties.
Graduate Surveyors
Paul joined Turner Morum in 2010 to work within the development team. His primary role is to assist in the computer modelling of various nationwide developments in the form of development appraisals and residual valuations; these appraisals are designed to model a number of varying development scenarios whilst incorporating a large amount of changeable information.
Paul is currently in the process of working towards his APC for future RICS qualification.
Nick joined Turner Morum in the fall of 2010 to primarily work in the Rating & Development teams. His primary role is in the valuation and negotiation of petrol filling stations with the Valuation Office. In addition to this he aids with the other work in the department which includes large industrial units, offices, sewage works and garden centres.
Nick is currently in the process of working towards his APC for future RICS qualification.
Consultants
Former Director of Rating at Savills, Martin joined the partnership as a consultant in 1996. He brings specialist expertise in oil industry related properties, utilities, roadside properties, leisure and schools to a large rating team, which has many other specialisations.
Chris Hill FRICS
Former Managing Director of Westbury Homes Southern, Chris has been a consultant to the firm since 2006 and advises house builder clients on new land acquisition, trading and development.
Prior to joining Westbury, Chris was Managing Director of Blue Circle Residential and set up Saxon Developments as a wholly owned, property subsidiary of the cement giant and was instrumental in bringing forward major mixed development proposals in the Thames Gateway.
